It’s 2012. And . . .

The public craziness of this calendar year may call up uncomfortable reactions, everywhere, especially with geological and public-affairs news shifting the landscape of survival. Every reaction – fearfulness masked as scolding and cruelty, anger masked as hatred and contempt, sorrow in its pure form and in disguises like remorse or regret – offers wonderful realizations that they are all permutations of sadness that love is not felt or remembered: they are instinctive protections for the treasure of one’s own life, thus driven by a deeper love. Sensing this changes the Witness lens, the worldview: the human predicament feels more shared, empathy more spontaneous.

Seen that way, from inside the aware space of Self as love, even the greatest pains become gifts of awakening. 2012 might be really good for that.
